The Bus to continue free service during Spare the Air month
MERCED– The Bus invites members of the community to keep the fare and spare the air! For all of August, The Bus will celebrate Spare the Air month by providing free fixed route service countywide. The festivities will begin Wednesday, August 1, 2018 with a FREE community event at the City of Merced Transportation and Welcome Center on 16th Street. Transit staff will be on hand from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm with information on routes and schedules, with special giveaways from HOT 104.7 and Radio Lobo from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.
"If you have never tried The Bus, we encourage you to come out to the event to learn about the system and how it can help you get around town," said Artis Smith, Transit Director. "This event is an opportunity to celebrate our riders and to help do our part in improving our community’s air quality."
This month-long free service is part of the Free Fare Summer Program which was made possible through funding from the Low Carbon Transit Operations Program (LCTOP). LCTOP is provided to transit agencies to improve mobility and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The Bus schedules and hours of operation can be found at www.mercedthebus.com or by calling The Bus at (209)723-3100. Real-time information regarding bus locations, services and arrival times can be found at www.thebuslive.com. All buses are equipped with bike racks and are wheelchair accessible.
The Bus is the single public transportation service provider for all of Merced County and is administered by the Transit Joint Powers Authority for Merced County and managed by the Merced County Association of Governments (MCAG).
